What is Youth Riot!?

Youth Riot! is a low-traffic, moderated mailing list for organizations and individuals involved in the youth rights movement. It is intended to facilitate communication between youth rights activists in order to build a stronger and more cohesive movement.

Subscribing

To subscribe to the Youth Riot! mailing list, email majordomo@oblivion.net with "subscribe youthriot" (one word) in the body of your message. Alternatively, you can enter your name and address in the form above and click submit.

Moderation

The Youth Riot! list is moderated by Ben Livingston, editor of Oblivion. After attending the Portland Youth Liberation Conference in 2001, Ben saw the need for an easy way to network the various groups working on youth rights issues. Most folks can't handle the volume created by most mailing lists, so a moderated list made sense.

Etiquette

Remember to quote the relevant parts of the message you're replying to. Don't quote the entire thing. Reply in private if possible. Include your name and other relevant information (organization, location, etc.) in your signature.

What to send

This list is announcement oriented, so if you have an announcement, send it. Announcements could include meetings, protests, organizational developments, grants, etc. Be in-depth and informative.

What not to send

Don't belittle the opinions of others. Don't post funny one-liners. If you have nitpicky problems with someone's message, reply in private.

Networking

One purpose of this list is to keep people connected. Reach out to your colleagues. Provide advice and feedback. Keep in touch.
