Here Title Place
from Woodchips Volume 1 Issue 2
December 1995

Sid Misra - Aside from the humourous tittle (sic.), there really is no point to the underground ‘newspaper’. This is because most, if not all, of the articles that were written for this sheet of paper most likely would have been accepted by the school paper as either an article or as a contribution to the "Letter to the Editor" column.

The thing that bothers the Woodchips staff and myself the most is that no one even gave the school paper a chance before resorting to this underground 'paper’. They immediately assumed that what they had to say would not be printed. This may have been the case in previous school newspapers, but since the complete rehaul of internal structure and staff, we have received a lot more freedom in what can be put in the paper. Now, this isn’t to say that any piece of fictional garbage will be put in, but most of the pieces of writing that were in HERE TITLE PLACE would have been accepted.

What also bothers us is that most of the articles written were written without any kind of research. This means that 99% of the articles in the underground 'paper' were not based on any semblance of fact. They were untrue. In other words, they were false, wrong, misinformed, erroneous, faulty, inaccurate, groundless, mistaken, and deluded. So let me give a little advice - know what you're talking about. Believe me, it can actually help.

And, just to add to the previous paragraph, if you are going to write an article or letter concerning an article in the REAL paper, here are some things that you may want to consider:

1.  read the whole article
2.  look up any hard words that you don't understand 3. try to know at least a smidgen  of  background in what you are talking about.

In closing, I would like to offer one last piece of advice to the wannabe-editors of the underground paper: don't bother.

Fei Li Kuang - As the chief editor of this newspaper, I faced a problem that I'm sure most organizations in this school are on intimate terms with: the lack of money! As a result, we couldn't publish an October issue. Another "problem" I encountered lest month was the first issue of the "Here Title Place" newspaper (if you can call it that). For those of you who did not come across this lovely work of literature, "Here Title Place" was an underground newspaper that compared Mr. Pirk with the likes of Adolf Hitler and contained an interesting lesson in math. The person(s) responsible for it had some good points. (One of the reasons James and I decided to do away with our social life and commit ourselves to running.the paper was to provide a place for students to express these points and opinions. And yes, you are allowed to say something that is against the administration as long as it is worded in way that will not make the paper liable for libel, character defamation and/or slander. Ryan, if you are reading this (and I'm sure you are) all we have to say is this: if you want to financially back your own paper in order to express your opinions when it could be done for free in this paper, BE MY GUEST.
