Fruits of Summer Boredom: The TWS Duke Nukem 3D Map

The Woodlands School has a new threat. The SAC and administration will be the least of your worries when you take on the bad-assed monsters or your friends in Woodlands Holocaust - or at least pretend to take them on. From the minds of Raymond Kwong and Issac Folts comes an add-on level for the popular game Duke Nukem 3D (1st person fighting DOOM-style) based on The Woodlands School. Roam the tech-wing with big guns like you've always wanted to. Vent your frustrations on monsters and the cafe vending-machines instead of your family. See what's really in Mr. Pirk's office. Feel the testosterone coarsing through your veins.

If you already have Duke Nukem 3D, and know what time it is, then you can skip all this stuff and download the file from the table below. The rest of this page has instructions on how to setup the map on your copy of Duke Nukem 3D (shareware or commercial versions), and also how to obtain a copy of the game if you don't have it.

Last Updated: 1996.07.15	The file is archived using Pkzip. If you don't have PKunzip, you'll have to find a copy. It shouldn't be too hard, they're all over the web. Try www.search.com or www.shareware.com, and you should find it pretty easily.

How to set up the map with Duke Nukem 3D

If you don't have the game at all:

• You'll have to pick up the shareware version from the 3drealms website. Beware: The file is really big (about 6megs) so it will take a while to download. You'll need at least a 486/dx2 with 8megs of RAM under the hood to run the game.
• After you have the file, install it (instructions should be on the 3drealms page). Once you've finished installing it, follow the instructions for the Shareware Version.

If you have the Shareware Version:

The makers of Duke Nukem 3D have tried to make it impossible to play custom levels with the shareware version of their game. This is one way to get around it - the following process makes DukeNukem think that you are playing the shareware version, while secretly replacing the first level with our Woodlands Map.


• Download and unzip the contents of DUKETWS.ZIP into your Duke3D directory.
• Make a backup of you "USER.CON" file (located in your Duke3D directory),and rename USER.TWS to USER.CON by typing in

  rename user.tws user.con

  .
• You have now replaced Episode 1, Level 1(Hollywood Holocaust) with the Woodlands Map (this is why you had to make a backup). If you ever want to playthe original Level One, then you'll have to replace your old USER.CON file.
• When you run the game it will automatically go to The Woodlands Level - for better or for worse.

If you have the Full Version:

• Unzip the map file (TWS.MAP) and stick it in your Duke3D directory.
• Type "Setup" from your Duke3d directory.
• Choose "Select User Map" from the menu.
• Highlight "TWS.MAP" and hit enter.
• Choose "Save and Launch Duke Nukem 3D" and hit enter.
